In case you have been living under a rock and didn't know, it is also an election year. The city is full of political buzz. The driver on the way from the airport to the hotel felt very strongly about things. He told us who to vote for and who cost who the election etc. He also said that he was good friends with the Clinton's and that they go out drinking together. Hmmm don't know if I believe that but anything can happen right.
I was able to do a tour of the city last night and see the capital from the west side the same side that we will watch in January for the inauguration. The we went over to see the White House. I must admit it was smaller that I had imagined, but still very impressive. Today I went to the Holocaust Museum, what sobering experience. I have always had a fascination with WWII I have read the Diary of Anne Frank countless times. It is just amazing to me that people can treat other people so horribly. There was a very special feeling there as it brought to life the stories of the survivors and victims of the holocaust. I have a new appreciation for them. Seeing the clothes and pictures were priceless but seeing the hallway full of shoes was so powerful it almost moved me to tears. We then walked over the the Washington Monument and the National Archives. I saw the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Things that I never dreamed of seeing right in front of me.
I have realized how grateful for many things that I have in my life. I am grateful to be a citizen of this great country. What a blessing it is to live in a place where we are free. To have the blessing and opportunities that come with being a citizen here. I am also grateful for my knowledge of the restored gospel. To know that all human beings are children of god and that he loves us all equally. I truly am blessed.
I could go on and on about this great city. In fact I would love to live here. I am not kidding if I had a job here I would move tomorrow. It is so full of history, culture, and learning. Oh District of Columbia how you have won my heart!

Wow, that's so neat! What an amazing opportunity, it makes me want to go there. I'm not so sure I beleive your cab driver either about the Clinton's, it actually made me laugh. But then again you never know. Have a safe trip!

I love visiting the nation's capital too. It was a place we visited often when we lived in Harrisburg. At the time it was our closest temple.
If you go to the lookout windows at the top of the Washington monument there is a plaque inside that has a label for the Mormon temple. I guess a ton of people kept pointing to it and asking "what's that over there?"
