It's a "suite" life

So tonight I had the opportunity to go to the Utah Jazz game. Many members of my department went: Nicole, Chris, Shane, Erin, Carol, her husband Tyler and last but not least yours truely. The great part about this was that the tickets were for the Xango Suite at the Energy Solutions Arena.

Boy do you get hooked up there. They serve you dinner, which included the best guacamole in the world. No joke! Then dessert, really good ice cream, ok ok just ice cream. Of course all the XanGo you can drink. What would a Xango Suite be without the juice there?!?

We had a lot of fun, although I think that the best part of the night was Cocoa Caffe. Chris introduced us to this quaint little cafe that serves the best hot chocolate I have ever had. This could very well be the best hot chocolate in the world, well at least in Utah. Erin described it best when she said "this is like the hot chocolate that is in the book the Polar Express". This is the perfect way to describe it. It tastes exactly like a melted candy bar. If you ever find yourself in Salt Lake and looking for a good cup o cocoa you should check it out. You won't regret it. Click here for the address, phone number, and reviews.

A natural leader...

I know that everyone has posted about the passing of President Hinckley. I can't help but imagine the joyous reunion it was with his beloved wife Marjorie. They were married for 67 years, that is amazing.

President Hinckley was formally introduced as the Church's president on March 13, 1995 (My birthday :)) During this press conference a reporter asked, “What will be your focus? What will be the theme of your administration?” President Hinckley responded, “Carry on. Yes. Our theme will be to carry on the great work which has been furthered by our predecessors.” That is just what he did. Some of his accomplishments are:
  • He traveled to over 60 countries
  • Dedicated 92 temples
  • Appeared on 60 minutes and Larry King live
  • Saw church membership rise to over 12 million members.
  • Started the Perpetual Education fund.
  • Along with the 12 apostles and first presidency published The Family: A Proclamation to the World
  • Oversaw extensive building projects such as the construction of the Conference Center and the renovation of the Salt Lake Tabernacle.
  • Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom

This is by no means a complete list of what he had accomplished. He was loved by all and will be missed my many.

"May the Lord bless each of us as we walk the path to perfection that the Lord has asked us to walk-with hope, with faith, and with that charity which is the pure love of Christ." President Gordon B. Hinckley, September 1999 Liahona, First Presidency Message

Ode to Evelyn

E-energetic
V-veracious
E-excited
L-loving
Y-youthful
N-noble

I was given the opportunity to babysit my cousins adorable little girl Evelyn. It was a lot of fun. She is the most loving little 18 month I have ever met. Her favorite thing was to read books while we watch Cinderella. She was such a good helper with the dishes and hardly cried when her parents left. We had a lot of fun together.

What if?

So this weekend I had the opportunity to go and see the movie The Bucket List. It was a good movie, about friendship and the importance of life and family.

This movie is about two elderly gentlemen that find out they have cancer and are not given much time to live. They make a list of the things they want to do before they die.

This got me thinking, big surprise I know. If I had cancer would I want to know. I think that it would depend. I guess if it was a cancer that could be fought and there was a high probability that I would survive, then I would be all right lets get going. Give me that chemo. However, if there was little chance that I would survive I don't think that I would want to fight it. I know it may sound as though I am being a doomsdayer (is that a word, if not I hope you know what I mean). It's not like I am just giving up.

Here is my reasoning. The treatment of cancer leaves you extremely sick. This is not a one time deal there is a series of treatments that you go through. I dont want to spend the last little bit of my life sick in bed. I want to live life. I want to have fun. I want to spend that time with my family and friends making memories. Call me selfish but I don't want the last memories of me that people have to be me vomiting because of the chemotherapy. There are many things that I want to do. If I only had a little bit of time left I know I would not want to be in bed sick. I know that I would be sick anyways as cancer is not a walk in the park but why be sicker than you have to be, especially if there is only a small chance you will survive.

After I came to this conclusion I began thinking that there is no guarantee on life. I don't know how much time I have left to live. I could die tomorrow, I am hoping that this doesn't happen but it could. I don't want to wait for a diagnosis of a terminal disease to start living my life and making goals. I am going to do it now. This life is a gift and should be treated as such. I am going to do the things that I want to now while I still can. I had better go and make a list.

New Shoes!

Tonight my friend Amanda and I went to get pedicures. They were awesome and very needed. If you haven't had one for awhile you should treat yourself, soon.

After a long and luxurious foot massage. We were ready to go, so they put on the little paper flip-flops. We continued to sit there while the polish dried. The one lady told us that we could leave, but we needed to leave on the given flip-flops for 24 hours. You read it right 24 HOURS! I had a look of shock on my face as she said that. I asked again to make sure I had heard it right, and she said yes. Apparently it takes that long for 4 coats to dry.

We figured that she meant for the night. We had decided earlier to go and get some food at the grocery store and make it at my apartment. Consequently, we had to wear our new shoes to the store. Imagine that two girls walking around the store in paper flip-flops. We were quite the site for sore eyes.

The good news is that you too can have a pair of these wonderful and stylish shoes all for the low low price of $25 plus a tip. (No seriously, go get one. You deserve it. You wont regret it)
