A natural leader...

I know that everyone has posted about the passing of President Hinckley. I can't help but imagine the joyous reunion it was with his beloved wife Marjorie. They were married for 67 years, that is amazing.

President Hinckley was formally introduced as the Church's president on March 13, 1995 (My birthday :)) During this press conference a reporter asked, “What will be your focus? What will be the theme of your administration?” President Hinckley responded, “Carry on. Yes. Our theme will be to carry on the great work which has been furthered by our predecessors.” That is just what he did. Some of his accomplishments are:
  • He traveled to over 60 countries
  • Dedicated 92 temples
  • Appeared on 60 minutes and Larry King live
  • Saw church membership rise to over 12 million members.
  • Started the Perpetual Education fund.
  • Along with the 12 apostles and first presidency published The Family: A Proclamation to the World
  • Oversaw extensive building projects such as the construction of the Conference Center and the renovation of the Salt Lake Tabernacle.
  • Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom

This is by no means a complete list of what he had accomplished. He was loved by all and will be missed my many.

"May the Lord bless each of us as we walk the path to perfection that the Lord has asked us to walk-with hope, with faith, and with that charity which is the pure love of Christ." President Gordon B. Hinckley, September 1999 Liahona, First Presidency Message
